The Murf by Scott Benson
This music video is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It’s floating my boat in all the right ways. It has so many things going for it.
The textures are beautiful and give sophistication to the simple style of illustration and animation. The blending of “pixely” shapes with more organic ones creates a really interesting tension, especially when geometrics are used to represent things like fire and blood. The illustrations have a very fun simplicity, enough to tell the story, but not overly complicated as to distract from the design and overall feeling.
The story is great, probing into our origins and predicting our future. It takes you from pre-history, into the modern age, and through to the distant future. Each time period has a distinct feel but definitely fits into the overall style.
Paired with an incredible track by Rendezvous, this video is something I really enjoyed watching.
